North Buncombe holds off a determined West Henderson High School Soccer Team
This was a game where the final score (3-2) did not reflect how the game played out.
When I take photos of a soccer game, I break each half into 4-10 minute quarters. I then camp out around the 4 corners of the soccer field, hoping to capture the action that comes close (and praying that the "big" play doesn't happen where I just was!). However, in last night's game, I noticed that the action was always in one area: near the Blackhawk's goal, where the Falcons were taking shot after shot after shot. After shot.
And Asia Baldwin, Keeper for the Blackhawks, came up with huge saves time after time. This young woman owned the goal box, and she was everywhere anytime a Falcon came close. She hit the ground to knock the ball out and then recovered to smother the follow-up. The Falcons kept coming with great shots -- delivered with accuracy and power -- only to be denied (7 times!) and only allowing 2 balls through. This young lady put on a show, leaving the Falcons frustrated with her great performance.
Despite the loss, the Falcons played well. It was fun watching this game, and I'm glad to be back on the sidelines after a few days off. Can't wait for more games later this week!
And you can find over 125 shots of the JV and Varsity game here.
