Rub the lamp, strike the lights, cue the music, let it be…
West Henderson’s production of Disney’s Aladdin Jr. was pure magic from curtain to curtain, and these young performers absolutely soared across the stage with energy, humor, heart, and confidence.
From the very first scene, the audience was swept straight into Agrabah with colorful costumes, lively choreography, and performances that kept elementary students completely locked into the story of Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Genie. That is no small feat. Young audiences are wonderfully honest, and this crowd was engaged, excited, laughing, clapping, and reacting to every big musical moment.
Well Ali Baba had them forty thieves…
…but West Henderson had a cast full of stars.
Every scene brought something new to enjoy. The cast delivered impressive vocals, strong stage presence, and the kind of chemistry that made the entire production feel joyful and alive. Whether it was the hilarious Genie moments, the adventurous spirit of Aladdin, or Jasmine’s powerful presence on stage, the students brought these iconic characters to life in a way that felt fresh, fun, and heartfelt.
The ensemble work especially stood out. Big musical numbers filled the stage with movement and excitement, and the audience could feel the amount of work and preparation that went into every transition, every dance step, and every line.

And that power came from an incredible group of students, directors, volunteers, teachers, and families who clearly poured their hearts into this production.
School theater productions like this do far more than entertain. They build confidence, teamwork, creativity, leadership, and lifelong memories. Watching these students support one another on stage and celebrate each moment together was just as impressive as the performance itself.

This performance also carried special meaning because it marked long-time theater teacher Kelly Cooper’s final production before her retirement from West Henderson High School.
And what a finale it was.
These students honored her final directing performance in the best possible way — by giving everything they had on stage and delivering a production filled with heart, energy, laughter, and unforgettable moments. You could see the pride, emotion, and appreciation woven throughout the evening.
For years, Kelly Cooper has helped young people discover confidence, creativity, storytelling, friendship, and a love for theater. Productions like this do not happen without someone willing to pour endless hours into students, encourage them through nerves and rehearsals, and help them believe in themselves.
West Henderson is incredibly fortunate to have had her leading these students for so many years, and this final production felt like the perfect standing ovation to an amazing career.
Congratulations to Kelly Cooper on an incredible legacy at West Henderson and for helping generations of young performers fall in love with acting and theater.
And perhaps the best part of the evening was watching younger children completely enchanted by the show. You could see them leaning forward during the big scenes, laughing at Genie’s jokes, and getting caught up in the adventure. That kind of excitement is exactly what live theater is supposed to create.
