Celebrating Henderson County Special Olympics Athletes at East Henderson High School

The Henderson County Special Olympics Spring Games are always one of those events that reminds you what community is supposed to feel like.

Yesterday, the 2026 Henderson County Spring Games were held at East Henderson High School in East Flat Rock, North Carolina, and it was such a meaningful day of competition, encouragement, school spirit, and celebration.

And honestly, I cannot think of a better place to celebrate these athletes than right here on the East Henderson football field.

Celebrating Three East Henderson Seniors

Last week, I had the chance to meet three incredible East Henderson senior athletes on the football field for a quick photo session. Mireya, Brody, and Nicholas were all excited about the upcoming event and the chance to celebrate with their classmates, teachers, families, and the Henderson County community.

I love creating banners for local athletes. Over the years, I have been able to photograph so many students across Henderson County, and every banner is so special to me. But these Special Olympics athlete banners are especially special to build.

There is something powerful about seeing these young men and women recognized in the same big, bold way we celebrate athletes all across the school. Their hard work matters. Their accomplishments matter. Their senior year matters. And they deserve to be celebrated in a way that makes them feel seen, proud, and supported.

Congratulations to Mireya, Brody, and Nicholas on all of their amazing accomplishments. I am so proud of each of you.

Proud to Create Senior Banners for the Eagles

For the past two years, I have had the honor of creating these banners for the East Henderson Eagles on behalf of the Student Government. That means a lot to me.

East Henderson High School has a strong sense of pride, and it showed yesterday as students came together to support one another. The Special Olympics Spring Games bring that spirit to life in such a meaningful way. It is not just about competition. It is about cheering each other on, recognizing effort, celebrating growth, and making sure every athlete knows they are part of something bigger.

As a photographer, I get to help preserve a small piece of that.

These banners are more than printed photos. They are a public celebration of students who have worked hard, shown courage, and brought joy to the people around them. They are a way for classmates, families, teachers, and the community to say, “We see you, and we are proud of you.”

A Big Congratulations

To Mireya, Brody, and Nicholas: congratulations. I hope you know how many people are cheering for you. Your banners were a joy to create, and I am grateful I had the chance to help celebrate your senior year.

To the East Henderson Student Government: thank you for continuing to make these banners happen and for making sure these athletes are recognized in such a special way.

And to everyone who participated in the 2026 Henderson County Special Olympics Spring Games: congratulations on an incredible day. Henderson County is proud of you.
